How Much Time Do You Need in Positano?

Positano is one of the Amalfi Coast’s most iconic destinations, renowned for its stunning cliffside views, luxurious ambiance, and vibrant, colorful charm. But how much time should you spend in this picture-perfect town to truly experience all it has to offer?For most visitors, 2 to 4 days is the sweet spot when it comes to staying in Positano. This timeframe allows you to enjoy the best of the town—its beautiful beaches, cobblestone streets, and world-class dining—while leaving enough time for a few excursions to nearby towns or scenic hikes.

Transportation: Positano is best explored on foot, as the narrow streets are not car-friendly. Be prepared for steep stairs and bring comfortable shoes.
Best Time to Visit: Late spring (May to June) and early fall (September to October) offer mild weather and fewer crowds.
Currency: Euros (€). Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s good to carry some cash for smaller establishments.
Reservations: Hotels and restaurants can get booked up months in advance, so be sure to make plans ahead of time.

If you’re interested on the other side of the coin, spend the day at one of the many fun beach clubs surrounding Positano, such as Arienzo Beach Club. Can be a bit pricey, but well worth it in my opinion, reservation includes a private beachside sun bed, meal and bottle of champagne.

Amalfi (30 minutes by boat or car): The historic heart of the coast, known for its magnificent cathedral, winding streets, and rich maritime history. Don’t miss the stunning Duomo di Sant’Andrea and the scenic Valle delle Ferriere hike.

Private Transfer/Taxi: The most convenient (albeit pricier) way is by hiring a private transfer or taxi directly to Positano. The drive takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.
Bus or Shuttle: A more affordable option is to take a bus from the airport to Positano. There are direct buses available, or you can take a shuttle to Sorrento and transfer to a local bus to Positano.

2. By Train: If you’re coming from Rome, Florence, or other parts of Italy, you can take a train to Naples or Salerno, both of which are well-connected by high-speed trains. From there, you’ll need to take a bus or ferry to Positano. Trains offer scenic views, making the journey quite enjoyable.
